Bio

Laura Robinson studies the comparative cultural use of new media in Brazil, France, and the United States. Her current project examines digital inequality among economically disadvantaged youth. Her study explores the role played by information resources in everyday processes by situating information seeking and media use within respondents' larger social networks and access to resources.

Her research has been selected for the Outstanding Paper Award by the American Sociological Association Computer and Information Technology Section, the Outstanding Dissertation of the Year by the National Communication Association International and Intercultural Communication Division, the Best Graduate Student Paper by the American Sociological Association Computer and Information Technology Section, and the Student Paper Award by the Association of Internet Researchers.

In the fall of 2008 she will be an Assistant Professor in the Sociology Department at Santa Clara University.
